@REVERSEartspace #gallery #brooklyn (at Reverse)
For all of you NYCC attendees that would rather hit up a Brooklyn party than the comic crowd scene, here you go.
You’re welcome.
It’s time for the fourth Pete’s Mini Zine Fest,
the fest-in-a-bar.
Our celebration of the duplicated arts promises a good time and a relaxing atmosphere, and is a great opportunity to really get to know our wonderful, talented tablers. Nurse a beer; read some zines.
Marguerite will be hosting a FREE comics workshop. If you’re interested in creating your own comics and don’t know where to start, this is the workshop for you.
I’ll be going over how to create comics–from the initial idea to finally getting it down on paper–and how to make your DIY books ultra faboo.
I’ll also talk about how basically any subject you choose can be made into a comic and do a little art demo.
At 5pm, meet at the stage area–once you enter Pete’s, just keep walking straight and bam, you’re on a stage.
FREE! Just show up!

TRIP CITY is a Brooklyn-filtered literary arts salon that launched November 1st, 2011 at WelcomeToTripCity.com. The multimedia website features free content curated by a host of creative heavyweights. “TRIP CITY reinvents the online arts collective with a virtual playground for a diverse set of accomplished and highly individualistic creators,” says Emmy Award winning artist and TRIP CITY founder, Dean Haspiel, “spanning every borough of artistic endeavor from the visual arts to literature, music, video and beyond.” TRIP CITY is the home of united individuals exploring new media to achieve a modern salon. Brooklyners Dean Haspiel (Billy Dogma, Bored to Death), Seth Kushner (The Brooklynites, CulturePOP Photocomix), Chris Miskiewicz (Everywhere), and Jeffrey Burandt aka Jef UK (Americans UK), will release exclusive content at TRIP CITY, combining avenues of expression such as original podcasts, profiles, portraits and interviews. Additionally, a fellowship of regular contributors will provide their original voices to TRIP CITY, including, Joe Infurnari (MUSH! Sled Dogs with Issues, Marathon), Nick Bertozzi (The Salon, Lewis & Clark), Jennifer Hayden (Underwire), Nick Abadzis (Laika), Jen Ferguson (Art in Chaos), Ron Scalzo (Bald Freak Music), Amy Finkel (Furever), Kevin Colden (Fishtown),and The Perv Whisperer (The Perv Whisperer).
TRIP CITY is a digital experience with future plans to take some of the content and perform it live on the road. “Working with so many Brooklyn locals, we have this great sense of community right out of the gate,” says Jef UK. “Then, when we take the next step and turn TRIP CITY into a live event—which is in the works—our tribe is already gathered, so to speak.”
Welcome to Trip City.

Isa*, a gorgeous new restaurant designed by Taavo Somer, the man behind Freemans and Peels, is now open. Jacob and I have been biking by this spot near daily for the last few months, since it’s just a couple of blocks from our studio. We’ve been peeking in with eager eyes, admiring the insanely beautiful woodwork, done by Somer himself. I’m really excited to try this place out in the very near future. More photos at archpaper.

Who needs DVDs? VHS is all the rage at the super-cool and super-new Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg. On Sunday, the theater will pay homage to the VCR with a screening of the 1979 horror movie Friday the 13th: The Orphan (no relation to the Jason flicks), which was never released on DVD. There’ll even be a live demonstration of how to use a top-loading VCR circa 1970, should you need to know that sort of thing.
