One of the greatest comics I’ve laid hands on- Carl Wessler?

IMPORTANT! A few months ago, I was at the house of my old Chicago roommates, and Max Morris showed me a comic book that I immediately fell in love with. I read it twice, on his couch, in the wee morning hours. It’s everything that is exciting about comics. It has beautiful swoopy drawing, a neurotic, almost hateful undercurrent, and it celebrates the retarded electricity of life. It’s one continuous story that feels like it lasts hundreds of pages, split up into perfect chapters. It’s a sprawling dream. Max has generously posted the ENTIRE 30-some-page comic on his tumblr, and I recommend reading it before Craig Yoe fucks it up in 2030. If you’ve ever wondered what one of those completely insane Wessler-written Casper the Friendly Ghost stories would be like with interesting drawing, this is your picnic. I love how all of the people associated with the Fleischers sort of spread out and trickled down and slowly spread the seeds of the Fleischer spirit all through American culture long after Max bottled up his girls n’ clowns.
